Why You Must Purchase A Dedicated Web Host For Your Site

By Frank Cruz

The benefits of a dedicated server can best be described by the following analogy:

Imagine you wanted an automobile. You could not afford to get one for yourself, so you decided to go in with 4 friends and everybody would own a bit of the vehicle. This meant that although it was cheaper for everyone, they all had to share the automobile. A schedule would be worked out and everyone would live by the schedule of when they could use the vehicle.

Now suppose, all of a sudden, you found employment where you required the auto far more frequently. But you only had access to the car on certain days at defined times and the job wouldn't wait. As the car is as much of your friends car as yours, they're also entitled to use it. You finish up losing the job opportunity as you cannot use the car all of the time.

The above is like the difference between a business employing a dedicated server and a shared server. A dedicated server, just as the name implies, is "dedicated" to serving only your business. This means that you don't need to share space and bandwidth with other internet business internet sites. I recommend watching my hostgator reviews video to learn more about their service since I use them personally.

While a small business or personal website can do very nicely with a shared server, a big or growing business would find a shared server just as much of a tragedy as the auto analogy illustrated earlier in this article. There's only a certain quantity of bandwidth in a server. It can only allow a specific amount of traffic thru at a particular period of time.

Bandwidth can be compared against a toll booth. The toll booth allows a specific amount of traffic thru at a time on a prepared basis. This works out fine, unless everybody comes to a decision to leave town at the exact same time and take the toll road. Then it becomes a tragedy as folks wait for hours to get thru the toll booth.

While you will wait for hours to get through a toll booth if you have got to leave town and have no other way to do that your customers will not wait hours to get to your website if you do not have enough bandwidth. Possibilities are, that if they try your internet site once and cannot get on, they'll move on never to return again.

You work so long trying to attract traffic to your internet site, it is a shame to throw that tough work out of the window by not having enough bandwidth to accommodate all of your clients. This is an advantage of having a dedicated server. No longer have you got to share space or bandwidth with other enterprises on the server. The server is dedicated only to your business, enabling traffic to flow swiftly and smoothly.

Though a dedicated server is more expensive in regular monthly fees than a shared server, it may finish up saving you money if you're losing customers because of the fact that the can't get access to your internet site because your webserver can't accommodate the traffic. If you happen to have got a large or growing business, a dedicated server is the only possible way to go.
